The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the International Committee of the Red Cross review the implementation of the project to support persons with disabilities
Today, Wednesday, the Undersecretary of the Sports Sector, Khaled Mohsen Al-Khulaifi, reviewed with the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, headed by Teresa Powell, the project manager of the movement rehabilitation program in Yemen, the most important works that have been implemented within the program of the project to support the game of tennis for wheelchairs with disabilities in Aden Governorate.
Three months ago, the Ministry of Youth and Sports represented by the Sports Sector, in partnership with the National Network to Advocate for the Rights of People of Determination (non-governmental), has implemented a project to support the game of ground tennis for wheelchairs for people with disabilities, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
During the meeting, which was held at the Ministry's General Office, "Agent Al-Khulaifi welcomed the delegation of the International Committee of the International Red Cross in the capital, Aden, stressing the keenness of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by His Excellency Minister Nayef Al-Bakri, to create a real and effective partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, to serve the category of people with disabilities, It helps reduce the impact of their disability through sports participation and enhance their role in society, with a focus on their reintegration into society.”
Al-Khulaifi said, "The Ministry of Youth and Sports will be alongside all efforts seeking to help this category, and an effective contribution to overcoming all difficulties for the success of the project, Because of its importance in providing psychological and moral support to the category of people with disabilities and their participation in all sporting events.
For her part, UN official, Teresa Powell, thanked "the efforts made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and its keenness to create a close relationship with the International Committee of the Red Cross, and a true partnership that leads to helping people with disabilities in general and the tennis team in particular."
She added, "I was pleased with the advanced stage that the project reached after 3 months of its launch, which indicates the spirit of responsibility, teamwork, coordination and joint cooperation between the committee and the ministry, which we hope will reach at the end of achieving the desired results, and serving this category that deserves all care and attention. ".
In this context, the project coordinator at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mabrouk Al-Hasani, gave a detailed explanation of the implementation of the project program, stressing that the work is proceeding according to what was planned and agreed upon, despite some obstacles.
Al-Hasani touched on the most important difficulties and needs that are required of the tennis team for people with disabilities, in order to help them perform and practice their sports exercises with complete comfort and without problems or complications.
The agreement signed between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in partnership with the National Network to Advocate for the Rights of People of Determination, stipulates a project to support tennis for people with disabilities for a period of one year, renewable with wheelchairs and game tools complete with physiotherapy from the Parties Center in the framework of the implementation of the International Convention on Human Rights, which includes disability.
The delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited the exercises of the tennis team for people with disabilities in the covered gym in the city of Sheikh, and heard from the team's coaches, Captain Zuhair Al-Mushaji and his assistant Ahmed Seif, about the progress of the implementation of the project and the most important difficulties that the players face while performing the exercises.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Acting Director General of the Minister’s Office, Hanin Jamal Al-Tayeb, Director General of media, Shukri Hussein, head of the National Network for Advocating the Rights of People of Determination, Al-Rumaisa Yaqoub, and by the International Committee of the Red Cross, a physiotherapist in the Cheltino movement rehabilitation program.
